Shannonvile Track
Day Details; Friday July 17, 2009.
This is a rain or shine event and will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
Last years track event was a great success and track spots were filled in a very
short time. We wouldn't want anyone to be left out this year!!!
We will be using the ever popular Nelson (Full Circuit), the 4.03
km, flowing, technical & precise.

This event is a lapping, testing and tuning track day. No racing allowed,
passing is allowed if you are on the straight-a-way and passing cars must yield
the right of way.
Each class will be separated accordingly. You must have a helmet and have a
mechanically sound car. We will have track instructors on hand and assigned to
beginners for their benefit. Please take advantage of this option. Each class
group will have a 20 minute track session and will rotate accordingly. There
will be a limit of 12 cars per session.
Beginners will be taken on the track by a pace car to get a feel for the circuit
prior to running the course.
We will also have flag staff and safety equipment on hand. In case the
inevitable does happen, we will have an ambulance on stand by near pit row.
Safety is our number one concern. Any individual breaking track rules, being a
general dumb ass, or has compromised the safety of the track and its
participants in any way, will escorted to the gates by security.
We look forward to your participation in this years track event.

**Friday Lapping Basic Performance
Driving School* for beginners (Beginner Group)
Like last year, StLAC will be holding a lapping school for the
beginner group. The school is optional. If you are in the beginner
group you don't have to be part of the school, but we highly
recommend it.
There is no added cost to be part of the school.
We just want the beginners with limited experience to get the most
out of their day.
One requirement will be that the students of the school have to be
prepared to let the instructors drive your car during the track
sessions of lead-follow.
*What is it?*
The school will be over the first 3 hours of the day. Each hour will
have an in classroom session (20-30min) and on track session (20min)
Each of the three lapping groups will be on the track 20min each
with the Advanced and Intermediate groups going first. Therefore,
when the first two groups are on the track, the Beginners are in the
classroom. The classes will be under the covered area, past the
concession stand.
Obviously, we will not be turning you into race champions, but
hopefully you will gain skills and understanding to keep you on the
tarmac with a big smile.
*Who is Teaching?*
The instructors are members of StLAC that are either race drivers
with many years of experience or drivers who instruct with other
schools. In many cases they are both.
*Class Room*
The classroom session will cover topics from:
- Preparing your vehicle and yourself for a day on the track.
- Seating position and comfort
- Vision
- Being Smooth
- Understeer/Oversteer
- Traction Circle (in simple terms)
- Entry/Apex/Exit (what to do when and where)
- Shannonville Full Track – How to drive it (what are all those
cones doing out there)
*Track Session*
Up to two drivers will be assigned an instructor. The instructor
will drive the lead car with the owner/student in the passenger
seat. The following car will stay close (3 car lengths) so to be
able to see the line of the instructor.
Half way though the session the pair of cars will enter the pits and
the instructor will drive the 2nd vehicle with the owner/student of
that car in the passenger seat. At the end of the session the
instructor will debrief the students before returning to the class
room.
*After Graduation*
After the school is finished several of the instructors will be
staying to drive their own cars. If you are still unsure of your
driving you are encouraged to ask them to either ride with you in
your car or ride with them in theirs. Be warned, riding with some of
the instructors is a kin to a 2-ticket ride.
Hopefully this school will give you some skills and confidence to
enjoy your day without exceeding your abilities.
